There was a gusting crosswind during that days flight. If you noticed I continued to drift towards the centerline on approach.
At touchdown I was on the centerline.
Also I use extra airspeed during higher winds and crosswinds. I was a little too fast but I am getting used to this airplane. i still had 13 inches on short final where I would normally have been down to 11 inches. It does handle different on the approach phase. The elevator has much more authority making it more sensitive due to the fact that the engine is 6 enchces closer to the firewall. It is quite noticeable. But I use lots of runway and power-on normally when there is a long runway available. Therefore the approach was more like an instrument approach where you hit the touchdown zone rather than the numbers or the end of the runway. Safer if you loose and engine.
The Viking feels more predictable on flareout. But again it was a strange and gusty day with nw quartering winds of 5-7 gust 25-30…
Just keep holding that nose off. Good practice especially when you lower the nose right onto the centerline. High speed lowering of the nose is where the new owners are getting into trouble and ending up in the trenches.
